Hanneke Benade
Hanneke’s award-winning soft pastels are quiet and pensive figurative works, depicted with exquisitely delicate formal skill. Characteristically focusing on women shown in calm, contemplative poses, her figures are bathed in a tranquil light creating a timeless, Baroque-like stillness.They are private scenes with an ethereal mood, inviting the viewer to quietly admire their world of peaceful mediation.Hanneke’s paintings have been exhibited around South Africa in a number of public exhibitions and collections and she receives regular private commissions.
Alongside her painting Hanneke has lectured at the University of Pretoria and curated agroup exhibition of eighty artists: ‘Squared’ at Café Palette, Pretoria Art Museum, following athree month stint at the Cite Internationale des Arts, Paris December 1999 –2000.
Hanneke was born in 1972.
